Art Vs popularity

i feel deviant art is becoming a popularity contest.
Even an "art" Myspace.
its great to get a photo comment, but having people commenting your photo to get one more page view or a comment back, is loosing the point.

the comment "nice pic" brings a smile maby, but not any constructive basis to improve your skills. its great to see who people think, so you can aim work to people.
